Built for the Brutal Seas — The History Behind Sansay

Long before she carried divers through Thailand’s tropical waters, Sansay was a Cold War motor yacht named Zhemchug — built in 1979 in Poland, and engineered for resilience in the roughest conditions.

Originally part of a Soviet fishing fleet, she was deployed from Vladivostok, transported by rail, and dropped from cranes over 10 meters high into the open ocean — a dramatic launch described in a historical Redcapital.ru gazette below.

After service in Russia as a PADI dive boat, Zhemchug was transported by cargo vessel to Singapore. From there, she made her journey to Pattaya, Thailand, where her transformation truly began. She has a 6m long 2m wide Zodiac rib-boat attached to get you where others can’t reach.

Today, she’s been completely rebuilt:

  • Improved passenger seating and shade canopies

  • Complete overhaul of wet and dry areas, separated for a better experience

  • New engine, a large second deck and a completely stocked bar

  • Dual compressors, upgraded showers and rinse tanks

  • Modern electronics, safety upgrades, and improved amenities

  • Installation of soundproof engine housing and electric compressors, dramatically reducing onboard noise.

  • Black and white photograph of three ships, including a large freighter and two smaller boats, with Russian text describing tuna fishing vessels and equipment.

    1979

  • A white coast guard or patrol boat on calm water with a rocky, green hillside in the background.

    1993

  • A white boat named Samsay floating on calm blue water with a mountain range in the background and a partly cloudy sky.
